Dr Bronwyn Evans Chief Executive Officer​


In October 2013 Dr Bronwyn Evans took on the role as CEO Standards Australia. She has over 30 years’ experience as an engineering executive in the areas of power generation, engineering education, Standards creation and medical devices. In 2017, Bronwyn took on a governance role at ISO as the Vice President (Finance) for a 2 year term. 
She is the Chair of MTPConnect, the Industry Growth Centre for Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals and a member of the Australia-Japan Foundation. 
Dr Evans has previously held Board positions including as an independent non-executive director of John Holland Limited, Chair of the Medical Technology Association of Australia Board and Chair, Robogals Advisory Board.
Bronwyn is an Honorary Fellow of The Institution of Engineers Australia, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and an Honorary Fellow of University of Wollongong. In 2014 and 2015 she was included as one of Australia’s 100 most influential engineers and in 2016 was recognised as one of Australia’s 100 Women of Influence.
Dr Evans has a BE (Elec) and PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Wollongong in the field of industrial automation, and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Adrian O'Connell Deputy Chief Executive Officer

Adrian is Deputy CEO at Standards Australia. Before taking on this role in 2014, he was General Manager Operations for seven years and General Manager Strategy and Stakeholder Relations for two years. Working closely with the CEO, his responsibilities encompass finance and investment management, corporate governance, human resources, training, business and events services, and legal services. 


Since his appointment to the ISO Technical Management Board in 2011, Adrian proactively and constructively contributes to the work of ISO TMB to support ISO and its members in effectively addressing current and future issues and challenges. He is also the Chair of the Pacific Area Standards Congress (PASC), a forum of 26 Asia-Pacific National Standards Bodies.


Prior to joining Standards Australia in 2006, Adrian had extensive career experience in leading and managing professional service and membership based organisations across a range of private and public sector industries. 

Adrian holds a Bachelor of Commerce; Master of Arts; and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.​ 

Kareen Riley-Takos General Manager, Operations


In the role of General Manager, Operations Kareen oversees the development of standards and other documents, ensuring their alignment within the existing and planned information technology infrastructure while maximising contributors' time. She manages the standards development, publishing, information technology and project office teams.

Since joining Standards Australia in 2009, Kareen held other leadership positions within the organisation in the national sector management and standards development teams and has represented Australia and lead delegations at both the ISO and IEC.

Prior to joining Standards Australia Kareen held positions with peak industry organisations where she specialised in supporting, promoting and advocating public policy interests for the Shipping and Infrastructure industries. Kareen commenced her career as an intellectual property lawyer.
Kareen holds a Bachelor of Law and Masters of Commerce, International Business.  
Adam Stingemore General Manager, Strategy and Public Affairs


Adam leads Standards Australia’s business strategy, commercial partnerships and member relations as well as the communications, media and public affairs team.

Adam joined Standards Australia in 2009 as a member of the national sector management team and has held various roles in both engagement and standards development.
Adam represents Standards Australia on a number of national and international committees and is a non-executive director of Construction Information Systems Limited
Prior to this, Adam spent time in commerce in business, product and market development roles. Prior to joining Standards Australia, Adam was a senior manager with a commercial consulting company wholly owned by a Group of Eight Australian university.
Adam initially trained as a lawyer and spent approximately 10 years on the personal staff of Judges and then in practice as a litigator.
Adam holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.  


Varant Meguerditchian General Manager, Stakeholder Engagement

​As General Manager, Stakeholder Engagement, Varant oversees national and international stakeholder management functions at Standards Australia.

In this role he is responsible for engagement with legislators, Commonwealth and jurisdictional government departments as well as industry, business and professional organisations to address various issues of Australian public interest. He is also responsible for Australia’s international engagement with the ISO and IEC.

After joining Standards Australia in 2012, Varant held roles in the stakeholder engagement and public affairs teams, working to influence and shape key policies across a number of sectors including: information technology; communications; energy; e-health; and business.

Varant previously served on the Board of ANC Australia as President and Executive Director. Varant additionally has several years’ experience in the banking industry.

Varant has a Master of Management from the Macquarie University Graduate School of Management and a Master of International Relations from Griffith University.
