Dr Bronwyn Evans to Chair Industry Growth Centre for Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals

Dr Bronwyn Evans, Chief Executive Officer of Standards Australia, has been appointed as Chair of the Industry Growth Centre for Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals by Commonwealth Minister for Industry and Science Ian Macfarlane MP.
The Australian government has allocated $188.5 million to establish five Industry Growth Centres in key growth sectors: advanced manufacturing; food and agribusiness; medical technologies and pharmaceuticals; mining equipment; technology and services; and oil, gas and energy resources.
Dr Evans joins the ranks of other highly-experienced and internationally regarded business chiefs who have been appointed Chairs of the Industry Growth Centres.
The Chairs have been tasked by the Minister to develop strategies and deliver outcomes under the four themes of encouraging collaboration and commercialisation, enhancing workforce skills, identifying opportunities to reduce regulatory burden, and improving capabilities to engage with international markets.
A significant goal of the Industry Growth Centres will be to forge better links between industry and Australia’s world class researchers to maximise return on Australia’s annual investment of $9.2 billion into science and research.
Dr Evans’ appointment will offer great opportunities for synergy with her role as CEO of Standards Australia.
“I am looking forward to this opportunity to lead growth of Australian business in this important sector,” said Dr Evans. “Although the Growth Centre is focused on medical technologies and pharmaceuticals, I see this as an opportunity to collaborate with chiefs of industry in other sectors to find new pathways for the Australian economy based on our competitive strengths.”
