Statement on AS NZS 5033 Installation and safety requirements for photovoltaic arrays

On 19 March 2015, the Joint Australian/New Zealand Technical Committee EL-042, Renewable energy power supply systems and equipment, met to advance its current work program including in relation to the joint Australian and New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 5033:2014 Installation and safety requirements for photovoltaic (PV) arrays.

The committee considered industry developments and a February 2015 report ‘Best practice regulation of the Australian solar industry’ by the Clean Energy Council of Australia. The Clean Energy Council report is available from this link: https://www.cleanenergycouncil.org.au/policy-advocacy/reports.html

The members of EL-042 have agreed to consult on issues relating to the placement of direct current (DC) isolators on roofs with their respective constituencies and stakeholders.

The committee members will meet again soon to develop a collective viewpoint on the matter and to consider if any changes are necessary. Standards Australia will keep stakeholders apprised of further developments.

The EL-042 committee members represent a wide spectrum of stakeholders from Australia and New Zealand, including representatives from government, industry associations, testing bodies and others; it adheres closely to the openness and rigour of our standards development process.
