The documents which guide how plumbers across Australia install the taps, showers, bathtubs, hot water systems, and the drainage systems we use on a daily basis have been published today.
AS/NZS 3500:2018, Plumbing and drainage
Parts 1 – 4, have been published following extensive work by industry, technical experts, regulators, and consumers to address the needs of the community.
“The standards published today are examples of those that impact our lives every day, without even realising it,” said CEO of Standards Australia, Dr Bronwyn Evans. “There will be millions of homes across the country with a hot water system they use daily, much like there will be millions of people using sinks and taps compliant with at least one of the standards published today.”
The standards published as part of the AS/NZS 3500 series are done to align with the new three year cycle of the National Construction Code. Publishing the standards at this time enables them to be primary reference documents in the National Construction Code, and serve as nationally applicable standards guiding the plumbing sector in each state and territory.
Plumbing standards published today:
- AS/NZS 3500.1:2018, Plumbing and drainage Part 1: Water services
- AS/NZS 3500.2:2018, Plumbing and drainage Part 2: Sanitary plumbing and drainage
- AS/NZS 3500.3:2018, Plumbing and drainage Part 3: Stormwater drainage
- AS/NZS 3500.4:2018, Plumbing and drainage Part 4: Heated water services
“I thank the organisations and individuals who all contributed to these standards. With these publications we can be sure that we will continue to have the benefits of clean drinking water, safe sanitation and effective and efficient hot water systems,” concluded Dr Evans.
