Standards Australia Sectors Update

September 1, 2023

Statements

In September 2023, Standards Australia updated its sectors to align with revisions to the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC). Jointly developed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Statistics New Zealand, the change aims to increase comparability of industry statistics across the economy.

Standards Australia uses sectors to categorise its committees, publications, business process and stakeholder engagement into industry areas.

The transition to new ANZSIC sectors will lead to changes in certain sector names and the subdivision of others into more specific industry segments. The change aims to ensure internal consistency within standards development and engagement portfolios, enhance data integrity by maintaining publication consistency and integrity, and improve publication discoverability for customers seeking relevant information.
