Standards Australia welcomes Federal Budget support for sponsored access to mandatory standards
Statements
Standards Australia today welcomed the Australian Government’s commitment to sponsored public access to mandatory Australian Standards, calling it a major productivity and safety reform.
The announcement follows strong momentum from industries across the economy, where the role of standards and building codes has been a central focus.
The reform is expected to particularly benefit small and family‑run businesses and apprentices, allowing those responsible for building Australia to access the Australian Standards they need.
Rod Balding, CEO of Standards Australia, said
“This is a landmark step forward. Australian Standards are essential to a safe and productive Australia. Sponsored access to mandatory standards will help support every Australian, especially small businesses, apprentices and tradies. We welcome the Government’s commitment and look forward to working with them in a way that will practically support safety, productivity and housing delivery nationwide.”
