Vale Norman Faifer
Statements

We acknowledge the passing of Norman Faifer and join colleagues across the construction and building standards community in recognising his significant contribution to Australia’s built environment and to the organisations that serve it.
Norman was a long-standing member of the Australian Construction Industry Forum (ACIF), serving as Chair from 2017 to 2024 as a representative of the Australian Institute of Building (AIB). In that role, he played a pivotal part in strengthening collaboration between the trades and professions that underpin Australia’s construction sector.
A learned contributor to Standards Australia, Norman was a long-term Counsellor and Member representative of both ACIF and AIB. He brought insight and clarity to complex issues, always focused on practical solutions that advanced the public good.
A builder by background, Norman combined deep technical knowledge with a strong understanding of the broader ecosystem of standards, regulation, and practice. His career spanned building, quantity surveying, consulting, and expert advisory work across many tribunals and courts. He was a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Building, the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia, and the Resolution Institute.
Norman was a passionate advocate for an independent, robust, and fit-for-purpose standards system that served industry and delivered quality outcomes for housing and infrastructure across Australia.
Our thoughts are with Norman’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him. His example of professionalism and service will be long remembered.
Vale.
