Construction

Sector Updates

Australia’s building and construction industry is critical to the country’s economy and society. The sector includes accessibility, cement, concrete, fire protection, masonry, steel, timber, as well as other areas. Building and construction standards aim to provide efficiency and improvements that can reduce cost and create confidence in the industry. In Australia, construction generates approximately 9% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Therefore, it is essential that efficient and effective minimum performance standards are in place. Numerous building and construction standards are referenced in the National Construction Code (NCC). The focus for the building sector is increasingly around sustainability and resilience, and energy efficiency.
