Electricity and Gas

Sector Updates

The Electricity and Gas sector comprises of the physical generation and energy transmission infrastructure, the components and devices, and the installations and appliances on the electricity network. Also included in the sector is gas transportation, gas distribution, appliances and alternative energy sources.

Safety is the main driver of standards development for the sector however, other standards activities focus on clean energy, reliability of supply, and performance. Standards have a key role to play throughout the entire supply chain in both the traditional resources sector as well as the new technologies in this space.

Current key projects include:

  • Revision of AS/NZS 3000:2018, Electrical installations (the Wiring Rules)
  • Development of AS/NZS 5139, Electrical installations—Safety of battery systems for use with power conversion equipment
  • Participation in ISO TC197 Hydrogen Technologies
