Standards in this sector retail trade, they also provide safety and confidence for the end user. Because consumer product standards are directly linked to public safety, this is a key priority for Standards Australia.

Standards Australia have two key objectives in the space – ensuring consumers are informed of the latest international developments and the corresponding standards are adopted nationally. Many consumer products standards are referenced by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

Current key projects include:

  • Working alongside stakeholders on key international technical committees, including ISO/TC 181, Safety of toys
  • The development of a button battery standard
