Asia-Pacific Infrastructure Standards Fellowship
(APAC-ISF) 2025
Project Purpose
Quality and robust infrastructure is critical to sustainable economic growth, social development, and responding to the multifaceted resilience threats in the Asia-Pacific economies. International standards define how products, processes and people interact with each other and their environments. They provide globally recognised requirements, specifications, guidelines or characteristics that can be used consistently to ensure that materials, products, processes and services are fit for their purpose and are interoperable across markets.
There is a lack of awareness and proper utilisation of voluntary standards in infrastructure development projects in the Asia-Pacific region. This causes infrastructure development project inefficiencies and risk that can ultimately undermine attracting essential capital in the region.

Project Scope
The Fellowship brought together infrastructure policy personnel, decision makers and high-level government officers from the Pacific to Australia to take part in a two-week program of meetings, discussions and site visits aimed at showcasing the critical role of international standards in infrastructure development.
Project Outcomes
Taking part in the fellowship allowed participants to:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the importance of international standards in infrastructure development.
- Improve capabilities to identify, adopt, and implement standards across infrastructure development lifecycles.
- Have opportunities to engage with Australian industry experts and key organisations within the conformance ecosystem.
- Apply the lessons learned from the program to their home economies, leading to tangible improvements in infrastructure project.
Beyond the fellowship, Standards Australia actively promotes ongoing engagement between fellows to support the utilisation of standards to support infrastructure development and operation within the region.
