Australia India Standards Trade Enabling Project
With the Australia – India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) now in force and negotiations toward a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) progressing, momentum is building to unlock the full potential of trade and investment between Australia and India.
Project Purpose
The India–Australia Trade Enabling Project seeks to pave the way in overcoming these challenges by bringing together Standards Australia, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), and key industry stakeholders to identify trade barriers, promote collaboration, and align standards in three priority sectors:
- Green Hydrogen
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT) / Call Centres
- Food and Beverages
Project Scope
The project will deliver a series of activities designed to improve collaboration and market access, including:
- Stakeholder engagement to identify trade barriers and opportunities, including workshops
- Development of sector-specific roadmaps and playbooks to guide collaboration
- Publication of a Standards Market Potential Report to shape future cooperation
- Delivery of an Australia- India trade enabling summit
Project Outcomes
Through this initiative, Standards Australia and BIS will help businesses in both countries navigate regulatory challenges and build stronger, more resilient trade partnerships. The project will:
- Identify and address key barriers to market access
- Strengthen collaboration between the two national standards bodies and industry stakeholders
- Promote the harmonisation and alignment of standards to make traded easier between Australia and India
- Provide practical tools and insights to enable trade between the two countries
Upcoming Events
Stakeholder Workshop Sydney
Standards Australia is hosting a stakeholder workshop in Sydney in November 2025 (exact date to be determined).This workshop will bring together representatives from government, industry, and standards organisations to discuss opportunities for standards harmonisation and trade facilitation in three key sectors:
- Green Hydrogen
- ICT / Call Centres
- Food and Beverages
The event will provide a platform to identify trade barriers, explore pathways for greater alignment of standards, and strengthen Australia–India collaboration in these critical areas of shared economic interest.
Participation is by invitation and limited in capacity, so we encourage interested organisations to submit an Expression of Interest by 30 October 2025.
