Indonesia Energy Dialogue
This project sought to build greater bilateral trade and investment in Indonesia through bilateral collaboration on resources, mining, and energy standards.
Project Purpose
Project Scope
The project included the following activities:
- Mapping existing relevant international standards related to resources, energy and mining sectors.
- Identifying opportunities for greater harmonisation in standards uptake, increased Australian and Indonesian participation on international technical committees at ISO and IEC, and opportunities for mentoring between Australian and Indonesian technical experts.
- A workshop to bring together government and industry stakeholders to collaborate on resources, energy, and mining sectors.
- Developing an Energy and Mining Standards Roadmap to document agreed next steps for Australia and Indonesia to reduce technical barriers to trade in the sectors.
Both SA and BSN are active members of both ISO and IEC. This project leveraged our longstanding bilateral relationship and provide the foundation on which Australia and Indonesia can build ongoing collaboration on standards and conformance work.
Project Outcomes
This project:
- Promoted greater awareness of how standards underpin current and future bilateral trade and investment in energy, resources, and low-emissions mining. This included areas such as mining safety and health, environmental protection, mining commodities, mining techniques, and other mutually identified priority sectors.
- Identified and enhanced market access and trade opportunities to support greater cooperation between Indonesian and Australian businesses by developing a roadmap for harmonisation of resources, energy and mining standards; and
- Strengthened the relationship between BSN, SA, DISR and MEMR, and fostered deeper collaboration and coordination across standards and conformance.
