Australia at the forefront: Standards Australia collaborates on ISO Environmental Data Dashboard

Access to global best practice in environmental data standards has been significantly strengthened through a new interactive dashboard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in partnership with Standards Australia.

The dashboard was launched earlier this year and showcased this week at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in Nairobi. It maps over 1,100 international standards from 48 ISO technical committees. These standards cover critical areas such as ecosystem monitoring, pollution tracking, environmental performance, product sustainability, and responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Standards Australia played a key role in shaping this resource, ensuring that Australian stakeholders, from policymakers to technical experts, can leverage international standards to address pressing environmental challenges at home, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

“We’re proud to have worked with ISO to deliver a resource that helps Australians identify and apply standards to meet today’s biggest environmental challenges,” said Adam Stingemore, Chief Development Officer, Standards Australia.
“Whether you’re working on data governance, tackling interoperability, or advocating for better environmental information, this tool shows where standards fit and how they can be used. It’s practical, accessible, and grounded in international consensus.”

The dashboard’s searchable interface allows users to explore standards by theme, data type, or sustainability priority - from green finance to AI governance - helping Australian researchers, regulators, and industry identify practical tools to support national and international environmental goals.

Why this matters for Australia:

  • Australia is committed to evidence-based climate and nature policy, and this tool supports that by making trusted, interoperable data standards accessible.
  • It aligns with Australia’s efforts to strengthen environmental governance and meet international sustainability commitments.
  • Standards Australia’s involvement ensures the platform reflects Australian priorities and supports local implementation.
