Australia’s national science agency teaming up to create HyStandards

Standards Australia and CSIRO’s Hydrogen Industry Mission are working together to develop a new resource to help people identify the relevant standards for their hydrogen project.

HyStandards will be a highly visual, interactive tool hosted on the Hydrogen Knowledge Centre, the go-to resource for the Australian hydrogen community.

“Many of us appreciate the need for robust standards for quality, safety and compatibility. With the interest in using hydrogen to reach net zero emissions, we often hear questions about standards. While not complete, a great deal of work has already been done in this space. This made us think, there is a role for CSIRO to work with Standards Australia to raise awareness, and a need for a tool to help people find the relevant standard for their situation”, said Vicky Au, Deputy Lead of the Hydrogen Industry Mission for CSIRO.

Emelia Addo-Appiah, Strategic Initiatives Manager at Standards Australia, said: “HyStandards will provide the hydrogen industry with a user-friendly visual representation of how standards apply to key hydrogen scenarios. In addition to supporting industry to ensure relevant standards are met, it also presents an opportunity for stakeholders to pinpoint current gaps, and work together to address them”.

Development of the tool will be overseen by a steering committee comprising industry and government.

HyStandards will be released in stages, with the first stage available in the second half of 2023.
