Standards Australia releases Industry 4.0 Recommendations Report

31 March 2017

Standards Australia has released its Industry 4.0 Recommendations Report highlighting key recommendations for Australia to gain opportunities created from Industry 4.0.

Standards Australia CEO, Dr Bronwyn Evans, said that in the future, businesses will establish global networks that incorporate their machinery, warehousing systems and production facilities.

“This will only be possible if a single set of common standards is developed.

“As we met with stakeholders, it was apparent that the long-term productivity and competitiveness of Australian manufacturing will be dependent on how well we transition into the fourth industrial revolution.

“This report describes the current standardisation activities taking place where Australia will be able to participate and the importance of encouraging a cooperative approach with peer organisations, which is critical given the complexity of the initiative,” said Dr Evans.

Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre CEO, Dr Jens Goennemann, said that this is a chance to develop an internationally competitive, dynamic and thriving Australian advanced manufacturing sector that boosts the long-term health of the economy and the nation.

“The reality is that the term ‘manufacturing’ now covers a much broader range of activities so there is significant potential for Australia to grow its manufacturing sector and become more globally competitive.

Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, Senator the Hon Arthur Sinodinos AO, has welcomed the recommendations report.

“Rapidly advancing digital technologies afford us an opportunity to supply high value products and services into an increasingly interconnected global marketplace. With this, will come growth of high value jobs and unprecedented opportunities for business growth, particularly for small to medium enterprises.

“The development of global standards are a vital part of the equation. Australia’s participation in this effort has been significantly strengthened by the work of the Prime Minister’s Industry 4.0 Taskforce and the Commonwealth Government’s support through the Industry Growth Centres Initiative” said Senator Sinodinos.
