Vanuatu Standardisation for Disaster Preparation and Response Study Visit

This project addressed the critical need for improved disaster resilience in Vanuatu by enhancing the country's capacity to develop and implement standards related to disaster preparation and response and increasing the awareness of standards in Vanuatu.

Project Purpose

The initiative responded to this gap by providing a targeted capacity building program for the Vanuatu Bureau of Standards (VBS). The primary beneficiaries were Vanuatu, and the project supported regional integration and trade outcomes under the PACER Plus agreement.

Project Scope

The project involved a two-week study visit to Australia for VBS staff members. During this visit, participants engaged in training sessions focused on standards development, adoption, and implementation. They also participated in site visits and consultations with Australian stakeholders who are actively involved in disaster response, providing practical insights into how standards and procedures are applied in real-world scenarios.The project commenced in March 2025 and ended in August 2025.

Project Outcomes

Taking part in the study visit allowed participants to:

  • Improve their knowledge of disaster preparedness and response standards;
  • Strengthen VBS’s capacity to lead national standards and help build a disaster resilient community through the effective use of standards.
Please note this project was concluded in 2025
