Critical and Emerging Technologies in South-East Asia

Introduction to CET

Critical and Emerging Technologies (CET) are technologies with the capacity to significantly enhance a country’s economic success, security, and social cohesion.

Development of standards in the CET field offer opportunities to help develop the use of new innovations and technology, support international trade and collaboration, and strengthen national security.

Standards Australia has partnered with the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on a three-year project to build knowledge and practical skills to support CET standards development in South-East Asia through a range of bilateral and regional activities.

With an agreement signed May 2022, the project - International Standards Integration for Critical and Emerging Technologies in South-East Asia - launched in August 2022 and will conclude in June 2025.

Get involved

As part of the CET project, Standards Australia has delivered a series of virtual and in-person events aimed at strengthening engagement across Southeast Asia with international standards and building capacity for standards development in critical and emerging technologies.

These activities have included Community of Practice sessions, the Critical and Emerging Technologies Digital Summit and Masterclasses held in 2021, 2022, and 2023, as well as in-country workshops and events leading up to the CET Summit.

The CET Summit will be held on 25–27 June 2025 in Sydney and will bring together representatives from the National Standards Bodies of six participating countries: Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Over three days, the event will feature presentations by the participating National Standards Bodies on their Action Plans, highlight key outcomes from the three-year project, and include workshops, expert panel discussion, field visits, and additional presentations.

We encourage you to register your interest and receive updates when future activities are announced.
