FY2027 has kicked off with strong engagement across Australia and internationally, helping ensure our local expertise continues to shape standards that support innovation, trust and economic growth. From global standards discussions to industry events at home and investing in future standards leaders, we remain focused on strengthening the standards system for the future.

Karen Batt, our Chief of Engagement, Standards & International Relations, and George Sfinas, Senior Manager - Renewable Energy, represented Standards Australia in Madrid at the IEC Standardization Management Board and the ISO Technical Management Board. Discussions centred on governance, technical cooperation and stakeholder engagement to support agile, high-quality standards development. Our participation helps ensure Australian priorities are reflected in globally aligned standards that support innovation, trade and economic growth.

Closer to home, Jamal Waqar, our Head of Research, Experience, Data and Analytics, joined the AI for Energy Transition Conference in Melbourne to explore Responsible AI Governance. He highlighted the importance of embedding governance into everyday practice and referenced international standards, including AS ISO/IEC 42001, as practical tools for building accountability, transparency and trust in AI systems.

Trust was also a key theme at the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) Accreditation Matters Conference, where I explored why trust underpins productivity and how standards help bring clarity to an increasingly complex world. Karen Batt and Nic Millar, our Strategic Programs and Engagement Manager, also attended, highlighting the importance of developing future standards professionals and building capability across the standards, accreditation and conformity assessment ecosystem.

That commitment continues through our NEXTgen and Graduate programs.

Applications for the 2027 NEXTgen Program will open soon, offering emerging industry or technical experts the chance to build their knowledge of standards development and expand their professional network and connect.  

Applications are now open for our 2027 Graduate Program for recent graduates looking to build a purpose-driven career with national and international impact.

Investing in the next generation is essential to keeping standards relevant and responsive. By bringing new perspectives, skills and expertise into the standards community, we are strengthening the system that supports Australia's future industries, economy and society.

As we look ahead, we also acknowledge those who have helped shape our journey. After 17 years with Standards Australia, our Chief Development Officer, Adam Stingemore, has concluded his time with us. We thank Adam for his significant contribution to our organisation and the broader standards system and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.
