Chief Executive Officer, Standards Australia
As 2025 draws to a close, we reflect on a year defined by rapid transformation, uncertainty, and opportunity.
The pace of technological change, evolving policy frameworks, and global volatility have reshaped the world we operate in. Through it all, our shared vision: to provide confidence in an ever-changing world, has never been more important.
This year was a testament to what we can achieve together:
- We supported Australia’s transition to a sustainable, digitally enabled, and resilient future.
- We advanced responsible AI and quantum technologies, clean energy infrastructure, and circular battery economies.
- And through collaboration with government, industry, and regional partners, we ensured standards remain relevant, inclusive, and future-ready.
A standout achievement was publishing 509 Australian Standards, the highest number in over two decades. This result would not have been possible without our many dedicated committees of technical experts volunteering across industry, government, and academia.
Our collective efforts also extended globally, with active representation at ISO and IEC reinforcing Australia’s role in shaping international standards and enabling seamless collaboration across borders.
Looking ahead, our FY26–30 Strategy: FIT for the Future sets a clear course for the next five years. Built on Financial Responsibility, Impact, and Trust, it positions us to navigate technological disruption, climate transition, and global competition while continuing to deliver confidence and value.
The achievements from the year belong to all of us: members, contributors, partners, and our people. Working together to shape a safer, more sustainable, and competitive future.
Thank you for your dedication and support throughout 2025. I look forward to building on this momentum in 2026 as we bring our new strategy to life.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and joyful holiday season.

New research highlights growing concerns among Australians shopping unsafe products

In today’s economic climate, Australians are making a significant trade-off between potentially unsafe products and affordability. New research from Standards Australia reveals that an overwhelming 82% of Australians know that overseas and discount retailers may sell products that don’t meet our safety standards.
Standards Australia champions Pacific collaboration with first regional standard for Quick Frozen Cassava

This milestone is a testament to the power of collaboration, and a major step forward in improving public health, strengthening communities, and unlocking economic opportunity across the Pacific. We have proudly supported this journey as part of the Pacific Quality Infrastructure (PQI) Initiative, working alongside regional quality infrastructure organisations and the Pacific Islands Forum.
Environmental data insights: New interactive dashboard and research mapping over 1,000 ISO standards across different areas

In support of the UN Environment Programme’s Global Environmental Data Strategy, we partnered with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to conduct research to help governments, academia, businesses and other users gain a better understanding of existing ISO standards related to environmental data.

Building trust in quantum: Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s Collaborative Quantum Roadmap for a connected future

We are proud to announce the completion of the Strengthening Collaboration on Standardisation for Quantum Technologies project. As the first quantum initiative delivered under the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance, the project set a foundation for more inclusive, harmonised approaches to quantum technology standards across the Asia–Pacific region.
