May 4, 2026

Statements

Standards Australia is pleased to announce the two schools selected to represent Australia for the first time at the International Standards Olympiad, to be held in South Korea.

Congratulations to Loyola College (VIC) and Methodist Ladies’ College (WA), whose students have secured places in this prestigious global competition.

Hosted by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards and organised by the Korean Standards Association, the Olympiad brings together high-achieving secondary students from around the world to explore how standards shape everyday life and help solve real-world challenges. Over the three-day program, students will participate in collaborative standard-writing challenges, team presentations, and formal ceremonies.

Meet the teams

Middle school team:  Students Isaac Schembri, Sebastian Parisella and Noah King Barradas will represent Loyola College. The team brings strong experience in public speaking, creative problem-solving and teamwork through participation in programs such as Tournament of Minds, debating competitions, STEM challenges and school leadership roles.

High school team: Chelsea Robinson, Victoria Siew and Heidi Tan from Methodist Ladies’ College demonstrate outstanding achievement across STEM disciplines, with experience in national and international competitions. Their involvement spans applied STEM initiatives including satellite design programs and sustainability- and energy‑focused committees, supporting a well‑rounded and collaborative approach to problem‑solving.

Rod Balding, CEO at Standards Australia, congratulated the teams on their selection:

“These students stood out in a field of exceptionally high-calibre applicants from across the country, and their selection is an incredible achievement. We are looking forward to preparing them for the International Standards Olympiad and supporting them in Korea as they represent Australia on the global stage. This is a wonderful opportunity for the teams to deepen their understanding of standards and the role they play in shaping industries, innovation and everyday life.”

The International Standards Olympiad takes place from 12 to 14 August 2026 in Goyang-si and Gyeonggi-do (Seoul), South Korea. Find out more: International Standards Olympiad
