Rolling Stock Fire Safety, Part 1: Locomotives and Freight
Product Designation: AS 7529.1:2026
Abstract: The objective of this document is to provide requirements, recommendations and guidance for fire safety for locomotive and freight rolling stock operating in Australia. The requirements aim to ensure rolling stock is designed and maintained to reduce fire ignition risk, control fire growth, minimize fire impacts on people and operations, and support safe occupant egress and emergency intervention.
History: First published as AS 7529.1:2014 and AS 7529.2:2014. This edition 2026.
EMC Management
Product Designation: AS 7722:2026
Abstract: The objective of this Standard is to define requirements for the management of electromagnetic emissions and susceptibility of devices used in the railway so that all systems used in the railway are electromagnetically compatible. These requirements define the minimum effort required to manage the risk associated with EMC and to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory, safety and reliability requirements. Particular situations could require more detailed assessment. Advisory information is also provided to support mandatory requirements. Rail Transport Operators (RTOs) are responsible to ensure that any EMC risks introduced by new or altered systems and products are controlled so far as is reasonably practicable (SFAIRP).
History: First published as AS 7722:2016. Second edition 2026.
Signalling Principles
Product Designation: AS 7711:2026
Abstract: The objective of this Standard is to provide the rail industry with a set of signalling principles that will ensure the safe and efficient operation of a railway.
History: First published as AS 7711:2018. Second edition 2026.
Radio Communication in the Rail Corridor
Product Designation: AS 7660:2026
Abstract: The objective of this Standard is to define functional requirements for radio communication systems that will: (a) mitigate the risk associated with identified hazards; (b) facilitate compliance with the Rail Safety National Law; and (c) identify the roles of Rail Infrastructure Managers (RIM) and Rolling Stock Operators (RSO) in providing, operating, maintaining and removing radio communication systems. Rail Transport Operators (RTO) are legally required to ensure safe railway operations. While each operator meets this obligation through their own safety management system, safety critical communications are to be coordinated and consistent across operators. Despite differences in technology, communication systems are to enable seamless and reliable communication for users across all RIM boundaries and interfaces.
History: First published as AS 7660:2017. Second edition 2026.
Rolling Stock Interior Environment
Product Designation: AS 7633:2026
Abstract: The objective of this Standard is to manage the risks to safety arising from the interface between rail infrastructure and rolling stock during railway operations. It achieves this by setting out the minimum clearance standards for safe operation between: rolling stock (including loads) and trackside structures and equipment; and rolling stock (including loads) on adjacent tracks. This Standard uses key inputs from AS 7507:2026.
History: First published as AS 7633:2012. Second edition 2020. Third edition 2026.
Rolling Stock Interior Environment
Product Designation: AS 7513:2026
Abstract: The objective of this Standard is to describe the requirements for the interior environmental specification and performance of rolling stock. The main purpose of the requirements is to provide a safe and comfortable environment on rolling stock for humans. This ARISO Standard attempts to define good to best environmental practice from existing legislation and other sources to incorporate as mandatory and recommended requirements for Australian rail networks.
History: First published as AS 7513.1:2014, AS 7513.3:2014, and AS 7513.4:2014. This document AS 7513:2026.
